Does your high school need an alpine or snowboard racing team? Most definitely! This message pertains to all high school students and the parents of high school students who happen to live in Southern California.

CNISSF (California Nevada Interscholastic Ski and Snowboard Federation) is out to recruit more high school alpine and snowboard racing teams. High school skiers and snowboarders can compete for their high school as a co-ed athletic team. All interested schools in Southern California would compete in the same division as Mammoth, South Division Two (SD2). SD2 is the most southern division of the federation. Current members of SD2 include, but are not limited to: Mammoth, Bishop, Lone Pine, Rim of the World (Arrowhead), and Sultana (Wrightwood). A high school in Thousand Oaks is highly considering joining our division next season. We will certainly welcome them, and other So-Cal schools in turn.

CNISSF is the governing body of the California Interscholastic Federation for winter sports and is administered by the Northern Section CIF. CNISSF does allow FIS and Junior Team members to compete in the school races. A FIS or Junior Team member can compete both as an athlete who is a member of a mountain team (no mountain team points scored) and as a high school team member scoring team points for her/his high school. All that is really needed to jump start a team at a Southern California High School is a group of interested athletes and a parent willing to spearhead the rewarding process.

There are six division races during the winter sports season, traditionally held at Mammoth Mountain. Beginning next season, we will likely have one race in the Big Bear area. Every year, the elite high school winter athletes gather at the CNISSF Championships the first week of March. This year, the competition is at Northstar-at-Tahoe.
If you are interested in such a venture, or you know someone that might be, please contact current SD2 Coordinator Chris Leonard at or 818-288-3271. Please feel free to watch our races at Mammoth Mountain to get a better understanding of the division. A race schedule is posted is posted here.
